The SHAPE Teens Mentorship Programme is an intervention of Beyond Sasa CBO designed to reduce school dropout rates among teenagers in Kilifi County.
Why the Programme Exists
Many young people leave school not because they lack ability or dreams, but because difficult life circumstances, social pressures, poverty, family challenges, disappointments, and personal struggles cause them to lose hope before they have fully explored their potential. When teenagers begin to believe that their future is already determined by their circumstances, they often disengage from education and from the opportunities available to them.
Discovering the Wealth Within
The SHAPE Teens Mentorship Programme seeks to change this narrative by helping teenagers discover the wealth of potential, talents, gifts, abilities, and resources already within them. We believe that every young person has unique strengths and a purpose that can be developed and expressed regardless of their background.
Connected to the Source
At the heart of the programme is the belief that teenagers must be connected to their ultimate Source—God. A strong spiritual foundation gives young people a sense of identity, purpose, hope, and meaning that rises above family challenges, cultural limitations, failures, opposition, and life's difficulties. When teenagers understand who they are and why they were created, they become internally motivated and purpose-driven.
Holistic Development
The programme also focuses on holistic development by helping teenagers identify and strengthen their spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical capacities. Through mentorship, self-discovery, life skills development, and guided reflection, participants learn how to use these resources effectively in their relationships, academics, leadership roles, and everyday decision-making.
Living Out Their Gifts
SHAPE Teens encourages young people to apply their gifts and strengths at home, at school, in church, and within their communities. As they experience success through authentic self-expression and responsible action, they develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper sense of fulfillment.
Long-Term Educational Success
Our ultimate goal is to help teenagers remain engaged in education for as long as possible, successfully transitioning from primary school to secondary school and eventually to tertiary education or vocational pathways. By developing resilience, purpose, and self-awareness, participants learn to view challenges and failures not as reasons to quit, but as opportunities for growth and learning.
Our Impact Vision
Through the SHAPE Teens Mentorship Programme, Beyond Sasa CBO is raising a generation of purpose-driven, resilient, self-aware, and socially responsible young people who are equipped to transform their lives and positively impact their communities.
